If you're searching for a family-friendly destination in Vietnam that offers both relaxation and adventure, look no further than Nha Trang. Located along the stunning central coastline, Nha Trang is a vibrant coastal city known for its crystal-clear waters, white-sand beaches, and a range of activities suitable for travellers of all ages. Whether you're after beachside relaxation, cultural exploration, or thrilling adventures, Nha Trang has something for every member of the family.

We were originally undecided about whether or not to visit Nha Trang. I had read a couple of family travel blogs who had said the city wasn't really their vibe but I am so glad we went for it because we fell in love with the city. It may not have been other families' vibe but it was TOTALLY ours!

Where is Nha Trang?
Nha Trang is located along the southeastern coast of Vietnam, in Khanh Hoa Province. The city sits on the shores of the South China Sea, offering a picturesque coastal setting with beautiful beaches and clear waters, making it a popular destination for both locals and international travellers. The city is also a hub for water-based activities, including snorkelling, diving, and island-hopping, with several small islands located just offshore.

The city is easily accessible by air, with the Cam Ranh International Airport (about 30 km south of Nha Trang) offering domestic and international flights. Nha Trang is also reachable by train and bus, making it a convenient and well-connected destination.

We are currently travelling from North to South of Vietnam so we arrived in Nha Trang from Da Nang after spending a week exploring Hoi An and its surrounding areas. The train was our 3rd sleeper train in Vietnam and took 10 hours in total. Sounds rough but it honestly wasn't that bad!

Where to stay
Nha Trang is home to some beautiful resorts and hotels. But it also has plenty of budget friendly accommodation and hostels for those, like us, who are travelling on a budget. We actually ended up experiencing the best of both worlds during our stay. Our accommodation was low budget, it was in a perfect central location and had everything we needed. However, we decided that we wanted to extend our stay in Nha Trang- we were nowhere near ready to leave after a few nights! So, we booked a little slice of luxury in one of the towering resorts in the city. Our accommodation was still actually very budget friendly but for us it slipped just outside our budget. When you're in a city as beautiful as Nha Trang it's hard to resist wanting a little slice of the good life!

Getting around
Nha Trang has a Northern and Southern part which is divided by the Cai River. The main bustle of the city is based in the southern part. This is where you will find the resorts, markets, shopping malls and endless bars and restaurants. Everything in the city is easily accessible by foot. We spent most of our evenings walking around the city and soaking in the atmosphere.

The northern part of the city offered a totally different vibe. We found this side to be more authentic and less modern compared to the southern part. This is where you will find Ponagar Temple, coral reefs and Climbing Coffee. The northern part of the city is a short Grab ride from the main bustle of the south and as with everywhere so far on our trip we have had no problems getting a Grab taxi.
Worldschooling Hubs
I think one of the main draws to Nha Trang for us was the community. We visited during Halloween and there were so many events and meet ups happening for the children. It was more local families at these events and meet ups as opposed to worldschooling families but we loved the experience that it offered us.

One way to find out about worldschooling hubs happening in the area is through the worldschooling Facebook groups. There is also a 'Vietnam with Kids' Facebook group where you can reach out to other families who are looking to meet up and explore the city together.
Things to do
There are so many exciting things to do in Nha Trang, making it a fantastic worldschooling destination for families. Beach days, snorkelling, theme park, bowling and rock climbing are just a few of the exciting activities on offer for children.
Hit the beach
One of Nha Trang’s biggest draws is its beautiful beach, and it's perfect for families. Long beach lives up to its name with 4 miles of gorgeous sand and the gentle waves offer a safe environment for younger children to splash around. Parents can relax under the shade of coconut trees, and the beachside cafés are ideal for grabbing a refreshing drink or a quick bite.

The best time to head to the beach is early in the morning (from 5am) or during the evening. The temperatures are much cooler and this is the time when all of the locals are out on the beach. You will see them meditating, doing yoga or going for a dip.

Hon Chong beach is situated in the Northern part of Nha Trang. A short taxi ride takes you to another stunning beach. We actually preferred this beach to Long beach due to it being flatter and shallower. The boys spent hours splashing about in the waves.

Hon Chong beach is also home to a coral reef. The mini marine biologists will love finding bits of coral washed up on the beach and discovering the many unique shells around!

Snorkelling in Nha Trang
Nha Trang is surrounded by several islands and coves that are perfect for snorkelling. Some of the best spots are easily accessible by boat, and many of them are well-suited for families with children or beginner snorkelers. There are plenty of guided snorkeling tours in Nha Trang that are specifically designed for families, so even if you're a first-timer, you can enjoy a hassle-free, safe, and educational experience.

We were in Nha Trang during the wet season therefore it was not a good time to go snorkelling. If you are thinking about snorkelling with the family then the best time to go is between April and October. This is when you will have the best visibility in the water.

Vinwonders
For families seeking a blend of amusement park fun and scenic beauty, a visit to Vinwonders, Nha Trang is a must. Located on Hon Tre Island, this massive entertainment complex is accessible by cable car, which itself is an exciting experience for kids (and adults!). Vinwonders offers a little bit of everything: water slides, a large swimming pool, an amusement park with rides, and even an aquarium showcasing marine life from the region.
There’s something for everyone, from thrilling roller coasters for teenagers to gentle boat rides and playgrounds for younger children. The park also has a 4D cinema, a large Ferris wheel, and beautiful gardens, making it a perfect full-day excursion.

Temples and markets
Nha Trang isn't just about sun and sea—it’s also home to fascinating cultural sites that will appeal to families who enjoy learning about local history and traditions. The Po Nagar Cham Towers, located on a hill overlooking the city, are a must-see. These ancient Hindu temples date back to the 7th century and provide a fascinating glimpse into the Cham civilisation that once flourished in this region. The surrounding views of Nha Trang Bay are also stunning.

Nha Trang has a small night market which lights up every night. It is much less overwhelming than some of the markets in Vietnam and you can easily walk down through without being hassled by stall holders.

Nha Trang Centre
Nha Trang is full of shopping centres which becomes a welcomed break from the heat if you fancy spending some time in the air conditioned paradise! One of the best shopping centres is the Nha Trang Centre which offers so much more than just shops.

On the second and third floor of the shopping centre you will discover roller blading, soft play, bowling, a cinema, arcade and a role play village for younger children. It is the perfect place to escape to if the kids want to hide from the rain or heat.

Climbing Coffee
I am so pleased I discovered this little gem in Nha Trang! My boys (including the husband) love to climb and when I found a cafe come climbing centre we had to check it out! Situated in the Northern part of Nha Trang, this little cafe offers ebike rental and SUP hire as well as climbing. It also offers one of the best coffees I have had so far in Vietnam!

Rooftop Pool
Nha Trang’s rooftop pools combine luxury with incredible views, offering the perfect escape from the bustling city life. Perched on top of some of the most luxurious resorts, you will find that most of the pools are accessible to anyone (you will need to pay an entrance fee).

We spent a whole day at Sky Blu Lounge which offered a 360 degree view of Nha Trang city and the sea. The Lounge includes a breath taking infinity pool which hangs over the edge of the building. With its glass bottom, our boys loved looking down at the city below!

What we love about Nha Trang
Nha Trang is an excellent choice for a families and one that you should not miss on your Vietnam itinerary. Nha Trang has everything you need for a memorable worldschooling adventure. Here's what we particularly loved about Nha Trang:

-
Diverse restaurants- here we could find something for everyone and gave use a little break from noodles and rice which was a welcoming experience for the boys especially.
-
Beaches- the beaches were stunning and so close to the main bustle of the city.
-
The vibe- we enjoyed the balance of the bustle of the city and the relaxation of the beach. It was a perfect balance for us.
-
Despite the bustle, the city did not feel overcrowded like Hanoi.
-
Something for everyone!- Nha Trang offered a wide range of activities to keep the boys entertained and bars to keep us entertained!
