Updated May 2024

Travelling when you have extra little people to pay for can quickly become expensive. If you are like me then you are always looking for ways to entertain the children on a budget. Barcelona is a city that has lots to offer, including lots of free things to do with children. Below I have created a list of 5 things you can do with children for free in order to help you budget travel yet, still enjoy the wonders of the city as a family.

Admire Architecture

Barcelona is full of beautiful architecture. As you wander through the streets you will be greeted by towering gothic cathedrals. It is hard to describe the beauty of the Barcelona architecture where modern design meets the Modernisme movement pioneered by none other than Gaudi. A lot of popular places in Barcelona require a fee or tickets to enter, however if you are looking to save the pennies you can admire the stunning architecture from the outside.

Spot parakeets at Parque de la Ciutadella

Parque de La Ciutadella is a stones throw away from Barcelona Zoo and the beach. You could easily do all three in one day as part of a 3 day itinerary. The green oasis is a perfect getaway when the bustle of the city becomes too much for the little ones. It is a perfect spot to relax, take a stroll, play in the park and visit the boating lake

Visit Park Guell

Park Guell is definitely a highlight of Barcelona and something that is suitable for the whole family to enjoy. Whilst you do need to pay and book tickets for the Monumental Zone, there is a large section of the park (Forest Zone) that is free. It’s the perfect place for children to run around whilst the adults get a bit of time to admire some of the architectural work of the inspirational Gaudi.

Visit the city beach

The beach is definitely a highlight of Barcelona. You get a wonderful balance between city break and beach holiday which is always a winner when travelling as a family. The city beaches are free to visit but if you wanted to explore a little further there are busses that take you to other towns along the coast.
